Latest Raku Pottery

Here are some examples of our latest Raku pottery. We are presently working with a clay that has a high percentage of molochite. This means we can subject it to intense heat in the reduction bins following firing, so we are obtaining a stronger lustre.

In the case of Copper Matt, the glaze is nearly 100% Copper Oxide. The glazed vase is heated to 1020 degrees celsius, removed from the kiln red hot and placed on a bed of sawdust which causes all sorts of post firing reduction and oxidation combinations to occur to the copper on the surface of the pot, leading to a rainbow of colours.
